Welcome To The World! • Newborn Photoshoot for an Adorable Baby Boy!
The studio is fully stocked and ready to welcome you and your new family with comfort and relaxation while Amanda captures your beautiful keepsakes. Serving the Calgary area, Amanda specializes in capturing Family, Maternity and Newborn Portraits.
I’m excited to kick off this blog by sharing just how much I adore working with this wonderful family. Mom and I actually graduated together (it feels like just yesterday!), and this is the second time I’ve had the honor of welcoming them to my studio for a Newborn Session. Return clients truly warm my heart; it’s the biggest compliment I could receive! A heartfelt thank you to this amazing crew for making me feel so special and for trusting me to capture another one of your beautiful babies.
The session went incredibly smoothly, and we explored a few different setups. One of my favorites was the heart bowl with a baby bunny (yes, a real baby bunny!), which made for an absolutely adorable shot. As always, I also loved capturing the family and sibling photos—those images always stand out because of their deep connections and emotional vibes. They’re simply heartwarming.
While I take care of most of the details to make newborn sessions as easy as possible for parents, there are a few steps on your end that can help things go even more smoothly. Let’s dive into those tips!
Top 5 Tips for Preparing for Your Newborn Session
Welcoming a new baby into your life is a magical time, and capturing those first precious moments with a newborn photo session is something you'll cherish forever. I've compiled some friendly and professional tips to help you make the most of your session to ensure everything goes smoothly.
1. Schedule the Session Early
Timing is everything when it comes to newborn photography. The best time for a session is within the first 10-21 days of birth when your little one is still super sleepy and can be easily posed. It's a good idea to book your session while you're still pregnant to secure your spot in my schedule. Trust us, you'll be glad you did!
2. Keep the Baby Comfortable
A happy, comfortable baby is the key to a successful session. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Feeding: Make sure to feed your baby right before the session. A full tummy usually means a sleepy, content baby.
- Temperature: Newborns are sensitive to temperature changes, so keep the environment warm. A space heater can work wonders - I handle this for you in my studio!
- Clothing: Dress your baby in loose-fitting clothes that are easy to remove. This way, you won't disturb their slumber when it's time to undress.
3. Prepare for Breaks
Newborn sessions can take a few hours, and that's perfectly normal. Be ready for breaks to feed, change, and soothe your baby. Patience is key here, and having snacks and drinks for yourself can keep you comfortable during the session. Remember, this time is about capturing those fleeting moments, so it's worth the wait.
4. Bring Essential Props and Outfits
Personal touches make your photos unique. My studio is fully stocked with beautiful, timeless props but you're welcome to bring along some special items that are unique to you. Here are some ideas:
- Special Items: Bring any special blankets, toys, or outfits you'd like to include in the photos. These can add a personal touch to your images.
- Neutral Colors: Choose outfits in neutral or pastel colours to keep the focus on your baby and ensure timeless photos.
- Backup Items: Don't forget extra diapers, wipes, and burp cloths. My studio does have a fully-stocked change table for your convenience, but it's always a good idea to bring some backups (just in case!)
5. Coordinate with the Photographer
Communication with your photographer is crucial for a smooth session:
- Discuss Ideas: Share any specific poses or themes you have in mind. I can help bring your vision to life.
- Understand the Process: Ask questions about the session's flow and what to expect. Knowing the plan can help you feel more relaxed and prepared.
- Safety First: I have nearly a decade of full-time experience with newborns and prioritize safety in all poses and setups. Your baby's safety is the top priority.
By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to a smooth and enjoyable newborn photo session. Relax, enjoy the process, and get ready to create beautiful memories that you'll treasure for a lifetime. If you have any questions or need further guidance, feel free to reach out—I'm here to help!
