Newborn Poses • Baby Whisperer
Calgary | Airdrie | Cochrane | Strathmore | Central Alberta
One of the most valuable skills a Newborn Photographer can have under their belt is a variety of different baby poses they can go to and achieve them consistently. I am a proud baby whisperer of sorts and love gently coaxing newborns into those squishy, adorable poses.
Some of the poses are complicated and require "compositing", which means taking two or more photos while a hand supports the baby. It is highly recommended and extremely important that these poses are done by a trained professional who knows exactly what they're doing to ensure the safety of the baby. In my studio, babies are never forced into positions or pose they do not want to do or find uncomfortable. Every baby is different and reacts to touch and positions differently. Trust the experience of your photographer to read their body language.
This is why hiring an experienced Newborn Photographer is important - many pick up a camera and decide to take on Newborn Photography without doing the proper training and research to do so. Ask questions, do your homework - it may be expensive, but it is WORTH IT!
When you hire a well-seasoned and experienced Newborn Photographer, like me, you'll notice I tend to have a particular workflow and am typically able to accomplish most (and sometimes all, depending on the cooperation of baby) and then some on one baby during a newborn session.
The names of some of the poses might surprise you - I think they are fun and cute. :)
*** REMEMBER...
...that our teeny tiny models are never put in any danger during the course of the session. They are never "hung" in a prop, or lifted in the air, or "balanced" on their hands (like in Froggy Pose, for example). Photos that look as such are either tricks with the camera or edited in photoshop - tricks of the trade keep babies safe and out of harm's way.
We know that they look adorable, and sometimes Newborn Photography looks easy, please, take the word from an expert, don't attempt to do these yourselves. While they are simple and look easy enough, a lot of the poses require careful knowledge and lots of patience to accomplish. :)
And safety is ALWAYS number one!
