Studio Baby Portraits • Calgary's Newborn & Family Photographer
Airdrie | Cochrane | Southern Alberta
This session was initially intended to be a maternity session and newborn session for a beautiful couple expecting their first baby boy. But, we all know what ended up happening.
The pandemic has foiled a lot of plans for those who were expecting babies with the hopes of capturing those fresh, newborn portraits. But hey, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade!
Nikan's parents jumped on the opportunity almost immediately as soon as I was able to open my studio again. Their baby boy was then 3 months old, but I knew that I would still be able to capture those beautiful portraits they wanted!
And he sure did not disappoint!
The first year is packed so full of amazing and exciting milestones. By three months, babies are smiling and interactive. My studio is fully stocked with so many varieties of props, backdrops, etc so it makes it easy to create a beautiful gallery! Nikan's mother and I had spent a lot of time discussing the session and I made sure I had everything ready to go for them. I was able to use all of the colours and the set ups they loved. I even made sure that I had bonnets that would fit this 3-month old little chunk, and spent some time knitting up some new bonnets and hats that would fit him.
Nikan was so smiley and chatty. I spent a lot of time echoing the adorable sounds he made back to him, and he would get so excited with his little legs flailing around with shrieks of joy making us all burst out into little fits of laughter. It was so much fun!
Nikan eventually started to get sleepy, so we spent extra time lulling him to sleep for some beautiful family portraits. I loved his rolly legs and squishy little body, and the excitement coming from his parents made me so adamant in making sure I captured all of those very precious details, moments and emotions for them. It was truly a beautiful session!
Nikan's parents ended up loving all of their photos from the session. It was nearly impossible to pick which ones were their favourites because of all the different expressions Nikan gave us during the session. The important part is that they loved their experience and ADORED their photos. They ordered some absolutely gorgeous products to forever cherish their memories in, and it made my heart SO happy to hear them melting over their son's photographs!
I really wanted to make sure that Nikan's parents knew that I understood how important these photos were to them, and made sure that I took the time to make sure everything was perfect. Whether that meant taking a break to let Nikan rest and nurse for a little bit, to playing with him and making sure both he and his parents were comfortable throughout the session.
Initially, it was a little difficult to get him to smile since I was wearing a mask. But he ended up warming up to my voice and recognizing the playful tones, and soon he was squealing and kicking with glee!
I never rush sessions. I spend as much time as we need to capture a beautiful gallery of images for parents to choose from. These are the memories that will be enjoyed for a lifetime, and that is just something that should never be rushed.
It was time well invested. Nikan's parents were ecstatic over the photos, we created beautiful artwork, and Nikan and his parents now have beautiful portraits to look back on when he's older.
