Baby Girl | Newborn Studio Session | Calgary Newborn Photographer
Newborn & Family Photography
Oh, this sweet newborn girl. *swoon*
It was such a huge pleasure to meet this precious little one and give Mama the newborn portraits she had always hoped and dreamed for with her new baby girl.
I was so excited to hear the news that this family was expecting a new little one into their family and that we would finally be arranging a beautiful newborn session! Mom had so many ideas that I was so excited to do with them, and their gallery turned out absolutely stunning! Not to mention, their baby girl is absolutely adorable with her strawberry blonde hair and dainty baby-girl features!
Scarlett's name is still hanging up in my studio since she was the last newborn that I had the pleasure in photographing since the closure of small businesses during the Covid-19 Pandemic. She was such a cooperative, sweet little baby so it was a positive note to end on for the time being, and I was able to really focus on making this gallery absolutely perfect.
Scarlett's big brother was so great, with BIG grins in every shot. He was giggling and having a great time, which really made it a fun part of the session. We were even able to get a cute shot of him holding his baby sister in his lap - his legs weren't quite long enough to support his baby sister, so we had Dad's hands in the photo and I absolutely adore the way it turned out!
While planning the session, Mom had fallen in love with a few photos in my portfolio that featured pom-pom toques on a tiny newborn head, so I knitted up a toque specifically for little Scarlett and let them take the hat home as a little gift after the session. So cute!
Just look at the grins on big brother's face - I absolutely love it! These family photos are so beautiful.
Posing families can be an art in itself, but I love when a good family portrait pulls together. I love the smiles and closeness of these family photos, along with the absolutely adorable expressions and big smiles from everyone. These will be treasured for a long, long time.
We had a tiny bit of an awake period in the middle of the session from Miss Scarlett, but it didn't take her long to fall back to sleep and we were back in business for her table poses.
Table poses (the classic naked-baby photos) are the ones that I feel that I enjoy the most. I love working with baby and putting them into different positions and showing off their tiny little baby details. I am usually capable of getting quite a few poses of each little baby I can get my hands on, and can find little ways to create variety in a gallery by making small adjustments and swapping out different backdrops, hats or props to create a new look for each photo.
Mom had brought along a necklace to her session, so I used it as a headband on little Scarlett, and the photo turned out so beautiful. I love it, and I was really happy that Mom loved it, too!
Mom went on a "shopping spree" in my studio - I have so many different colours and varieties of headbands, hats, props, etc and everyone is always welcome to browse through and see if they find anything they really LOVE to use during their session. I usually have a few things set up beforehand, but always encourage and welcome a little bit of styling from parents, as well, so that they can put a bit of their own style into their photos.
I am always happy to accommodate and oblige to using items that Mom or Dad are really attracted to. For mom, it was things like pinks and purples, and jewels and gems, and all things adorable and girly. I absolutely love how they turned out!
I had to do a photo of little baby Scarlett on red because given her name, that just seemed like a 'must-do' for me, and I absolutely love how she nailed her froggy pose with such ease. She was such a phenomenal baby and I adored working with her.
She had an adorable swirl of hair at the front of her little noggin, and it was just too cute. I couldn't help but give it a little swish from time to time before taken a shot.

Thank you so much to this wonderful family for trusting me with their brand new little baby girl! I can't wait to see them all again in the Fall for a family session. I am so glad that they have chosen to capture these beautiful memories in a wonderful way, and I am sure that they will treasure these for years to come. Thank you again for your love and support, and I can't wait to see you all again!
Welcome to the world, little Scarlett!
NEWBORN SESSIONS AMIDST COVID-19
NEW PROTOCOLS AND WHAT'S GOING ON
Newborn Photographers are in Phase 2 of the Alberta re-opening plan after the Covid-19 Isolation. I am SO excited to get back to work and photograph these beautiful babies for excited Moms and Dads.
While I have always been very keen on maintaining meticulous studio sanitation protocols, I have taken this time to really evaluate what more I could do the improve the cleanliness and safety of my studio.
In the past, I have always made sure of the following:
- Booked sessions a minimum of 24-hours apart
- Cleaned the studio before and after each session
- Washed all props, outfits and backdrops
- Enforced a strict no-shoes policy
- Worn gloves while handling newborns
- Regular hand washing
- Asked that clients who are feeling unwell to postpone/reschedule their sessions.
Amongst this list of precautionary actions that I've enforced in my studio, I will be adding the following:
- Immediate family members only during a session
- I will be wearing a mask during all newborn sessions
- Installing hand-sanitizer stations
- No outside props or accessories
- Closure of the children's playroom (for the next 18 months) to ensure germs are not spread.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly.
