Oh, that first year.
It's literally the first of everything. Especially if you're celebrating your FIRST baby's FIRST birthday!
Congratulations to both yourself and your ONE-derful baby on an amazing milestone! There is nothing like celebrating these first 365 days of life with something as adorable as a cake smash!
The amount of changes and growing that happens in the first year is absolutely incredible. Just think. You started this journey into parenthood with a tiny, squirmy little baby and all it took was 365 days for that newborn to turn into a clapping, squealing, drooling and quite-possibly-walking child who will CONTINUE to grow and accomplish many more milestones.
What will continue to grow is your love for your child! A year into their life and you've hardly scratched the surface in learning what they like, who they'll become, and what they will accomplish in their lives as you yourself learn to love in ways you never thought possible and find out that these moments are worth capturing and reminiscing over and over again!
A year ago I met a beautiful person, both inside and out, who was both nervous and excited for her maternity session in the snow. She put on a red gown and proudly showed off her baby bump... followed a few weeks later with a gorgeous baby girl who we dolled up in fairy wings, unicorn outfits, flowers and pearls as we oogled over her dainty, girly features and fell in love with who has now grown into the happiest, prettiest little thing I ever did see! Here is sweet little Aalyiah's newborn session from just last year!
Aalyiah, you precious little peanut. I really can't believe it's already been a year since your first visit to the studio. Your mama so clearly loves you, you are her entire world. And that makes my heart so very, very extremely happy. Do you know how loved you are? Your mama ADORES you. And it's not hard to see why. Ever since you were welcomed into the world and snuggled into your mama's arms, it's so clearly obvious that you two are and will continue to be the best of friends.
You have not lost your chubby cheeks and big, beautiful brown eyes. Your personality has blossomed into something that tickles a soul pink with joy and laughter. The way you inspect your surroundings, and make sure that mama is right there and enjoying every single moment of whatever you're getting into at that moment is a connection that will continue to grow throughout the years.
I know that one day you will look back at these photos with your beautiful mom, and giggle over them together. Let me tell you, sweet baby girl, you mama was laughing SO hard as you enjoyed every single minute of your cake smash. Her giggles filled the room and were so full of love I could feel the emotion spilling over in her heart as she soaked in every single messy moment that you unfolded before her.
You care about your mama, and that's something so sweet and special, Aalyiah. You even made sure that you offered a piece of your tasty cake to her so she didn't feel left out. And it melted my heart. You're still so little, but you're already learning so much about sharing special moments with the people you love.
You were a little shy at first, but as long as mom was there reassuring you, you were completely fine and continued to gain confidence and tried something new for the first time. That's something special, little Aalyiah. And the fact that your mom wants to capture and save these moments for the rest of her life is very, very special. She loves you so much, baby girl. I'm just your photographer, but I've witnessed something amazing over the times that I've met with you and your mama to capture special moments in your lives and that is that she will do anything for you. And I love it.
That's not to say you have a hint of mischief in that adorable giggle of yours, little missy. Once you were done your cake smash, we put you in a bubble bath and right away you thought it was funny to stand up and laugh at your mama when she told you to sit your little butt down. It turned into a little game for you, and I was given a very privileged peek into your beautiful relationship with your mama.
She cares so much about you, and your giggles together filling the room and the wells of my heart had me grinning from ear to ear and made me realize how much I loved these moments with my own girls. It's a powerful thing to be able to strike emotions into someone who observes you, especially when those emotions are of love and happiness. Aalyiah, you are a very lucky little girl and you make your mama a very lucky girl, too. You two light up a room wherever you go.
Happy Birthday, little one. And here are to many more wonderful birthdays and years with your mama who loves you.
And to mama herself, you are a wonderful mama. You are strong for your girly and know that I see a deep love for you in that little girl's eyes. I've seen a lot of babies and cakes smashes, and each one of them is special. But you two will also hold a special place in the Hocus Focus Photography family. <3 Thank you so much for being so trusting, kind, and wonderful to work with. Thank you for the amazing honour and privilege in letting me photograph these best moments for you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AALYIAH!
