Oi vey, I have a lot of blogging to catch up on! The blog ends up sitting on the back burner during my busy season through Fall right up until Christmas, since the high volume of sessions and getting them out the door to families anxious to get their photos for Christmas takes priority! Luckily, this evening I find myself mostly caught up in my work to be able to take a trip down memory lane and blog on a session that, even though I shot it quite a few weeks ago now, still has me grinning from ear to ear.
Ari's cake smash was one that I was looking forward to the day his mom reached out to me to book his session. I was asked to come up with a Winnie-The-Pooh theme with a "classic storybook" feel, and I couldn't wait to get started.
The first thing that popped into my head when I started thinking about the set up was, "I need something hand-drawn for the backdrop." You know, that sketch-book style drawing that the classic Winnie-The-Pooh books have? I used to doodle all the time throughout high school, so I dusted off some of my pencils and got to work sketching out a few ideas. I wanted to keep it simple but still feeling like it came straight out of a storybook. So I hand-drew a backdrop, especially for this cake smash!
I am quite thrilled with how the backdrop turned out (considering I haven't drawn in years!) With simple little add-ins to compliment the rest of the set, I couldn't help but sit back and admire it for a bit while playing the Winnie-The-Pooh theme song (I'm a bit of a Disney nut).
I loved mom & dad's reactions when they saw the set! But what really stole the show, obviously, it little Ari and his adorable beehive cake by Ruffles & Lace Artisan Cakes! Absolutely perfection and clearly Ari loved it, too!
Ari was a pro-smasher and got right down to business smooshing that cake into the floor. It was everywhere, and he had a "smash" doing it! Even getting him to splash about in the tub was no trouble at all, and he had us all laughing and giggling with his funny expressions and enthusiastic actions.
I am so happy with how this cake smash pulled together so perfectly, and am even more happy that Mom & Dad loved all of their photos.
Happy Birthday, handsome little Ari!
