And Sweeter Than Hunny!
Little Luke.
Little he was.
A tiny little cub who spent half of his session sleeping, and the other half awake.
A precious little rainbow baby for a lovely couple, and who I would see over the course of the year as he grew from newborn to baby, to a one-year-old!
From the very moment we stuck him in that adorable bear bonnet, an adorable little theme returned for each of our sessions together!
I don't think there are many things much cuter than a baby in a bear costume.
And even though Luke didn't remember me at his sitter session, and we found ourselves working through a bit of shyness and "stranger-danger" emotions, I eventually won him over and put together another session that tugged at the heartstrings of mom, dad, and grandma (who gifted these sessions to her grandson and his parents - how sweet is that?!)
As Luke grew from a tiny baby to a rolly sitter, and finally a chubby little cubby as a one-year-old, I found myself pacing with excitement waiting for their arrival on the day of his cake smash, but feeling a little sad as it would be the last of our little series for now.
But, emotions aside, in came big lil' Luke... not so tiny anymore! It's truly incredible what changes a baby goes through in their first year of life!
Turns out Luke isn't a fan of getting dirty, and found much more joy in the bath that followed. But, his reaction wasn't entirely uncommon. I find that babies either LOVE their cake smashes (AND the bubble baths to follow) or... they decide the skip the calories and the mess, and just find most of their joy splooshing and splashing in a warm tub of suds!
But, it worked out for the better. Mom & Dad took that adorable (and delicious-looking) cake home to enjoy for themselves! (A little jealous, not going to lie!)
And, of course, Winnie The Pooh is the perfect way to wrap up a little bear theme that trended throughout Luke's "First Year" portraits.
I genuinely love watching these little ones grow. As strange as it may sound, I often find myself thinking about clients' and their babies from time to time. Wondering how they're doing, how their lives are changing. In a fond way. I know I'm usually hardly anything more than an acquaintance to my clients, but I've helped them capture meaningful memories for them.
We've ooh-ed and aw-ed together over their newborns. We've giggled and laughed over silly sitter antics. And we've partied and hollered, "Hip! Hip! Hooray!" together at the big birthday cake smashes. It's truly such an honour and a wonderful gift, not only for my clients but also for myself. I understand the importance of these memories for clients. But, simultaneously, they are memories for me.
And, oh boy, do I have a memory bank (and hard drive) full of really, really precious and adorable memories.
