I don't like to use the word "challenging" when it comes to describing how a baby behaves and responds during a newborn session, because they aren't being "bad" or "misbehaving" at all; they're merely just communicating! Every baby has their likes and dislikes, and they will let you know when there is something that is just not working for them!
In little Landon's case, it was being naked. Oh my my, how this baby boy refused to let the session proceed unless he was covered (twist my rubber arm, all the more reason to stick him in some adorable outfits!) No worries, we had tricks with wraps n'things that ended up working wonderfully, and we ended up getting some absolutely adorable poses and expressions from this very sweet baby boy!
Part of the fun with newborn photography is seeing how every single baby is so different! Yes, they have a general routine to them and there are some things you can expect, but they are ALL different and unique. And some of their little likes and dislikes are just so quirky, it makes the session even more memorable for both myself and for the parents!
Perhaps a better word than "challenging" is "strengthening". It doesn't make the session any less enjoyable for me when I have to switch up my plans and routine a bit; being able to adapt and work with the cards baby is dealing me is what keeps my creative juices flowing, my brain working, and my skills strengthening.
And you know what, baby Landon did just fine! Once we figured out each other's vibes and it finally clicked that he truly did NOT like being naked, the rest of the session went smoothly and Landon was a happy little slumber-spud, snoring away on the bean bag. So, thank you, little Landon, for reminding me to always stay on my toes and to be ready to switch things up and be open to adapting and changing the plans during a session, while still staying confident that gorgeous images will be a result!
Also, just take a peak at the adorable sibling poses of big sister snuggling her brand new baby brother! For a little one hardly out of the toddler years, herself, she did phenomenal and it was absolutely adorable watching her plaster big smooches all over baby Landon!
Another stunning and very enjoyable session is folded up neatly and placed in a special little pocket in my heart
Everyone, meet baby Landon!
