The moment this sweet little pea was passed into my hands, I was instantly in love. She is not my smallest client; she filled my lap with her slumbering body quite easily as I wrapped her up, all while filling my heart with giggles and joy. It's nearly impossible to muffle the "aww" and "oh my gosh" coos when you see this baby girl. Her cheeks and rolls are just absolutely worthy of all the baby-fever comments that are sure to come with this little princess!
Her Mama, Samantha, is a petite and beautiful woman and it was amazing to see how she just so easily slipped into the role of being "Mom". She spoke so gently to sweet baby, Emily, and moved so gracefully and gently as she gathered things she needed, either for a feed or a quick nappy change, and I found myself embracing the calm serenity that Samantha just seemed to emanate from her so beautifully, whether she knew it or not. It was a newborn session I thoroughly enjoyed, although with the white noise, heat and the soothing environment of the studio that day, I found it hard myself to not curl up next to Emily on the bean bag and be whisked away into a pleasant Slumberland. :)
Do you know what makes my heart extra happy? Daddies who LOVE being daddies. And brand-new daddy, Corey, though try with all his might, could not hide his enthralled excitement over his brand new baby girl. He, too, was so calm and collected throughout the session, and watching this beautiful couple with their brand new baby, and talking softly to each other as they studied their beautiful baby's face was truly a sight to be held.
I honestly could ramble on about it forever. Although it may come across as odd, perhaps, I just found such an easiness and enjoyment to the session, which ultimately led to Emily drifting off into a deep sleep (after a bit of convincing) which resulted in some SUPER squishy and absolutely aww-dorable poses.
I had so much fun both shooting and editing this wonderful session for baby Emily and her parents. I love them all; it's hard to pick a favourite with a baby this scrumptious. But the mermaid and Star Wars shots, what sparked the idea for these? Well, Samantha had brought along the most adorable little handmade mermaid costume for little Emily. And it was a tight squeeze to get her in there, but we did! And thus, a bucketlist shot I've always wanted to do was finally shot for and I am SO excited with the outcome. The Star Wars theme was a little more of a sneaky input on my part - haha! I love finding ways to surprise parents and make them absolutely giddy with excitement. During a little burping-session for miss Emily, I noticed her little burpie-blanket to have "Star Wars" logos all over it. "So, who's the Star Wars fan?" I asked casually, with Corey responding almost immediately with a perk of excitement. Done deal. This was happening - and it happened. A Star Wars themed newborn portrait of Daddy's baby girl. So sweet, she is. (Bonus points if you get that!)
Thank you so much, Samantha and Corey, for trusting me with Emily. She still just makes me wiggle and giggle with those chubby cheeks and squishy rolls. My heart is so full for you both, and I can tell that you are both genuinely happy. You are a beautiful couple with a beautiful baby, and a beautiful family you shall forever be.
