Henry & Annika
Twins sessions are no joke.
It's double the babies, double the snuggles, double the adorableness... and double the work. And I'm just the photographer! It must take an incredible amount of energy, as a parent, to bring home not only one baby, but TWO!
Double The Babies Requires Double The Hands!
I always appreciate a set of extra hands during a newborn session and was so very thankful to have a fellow photographer friend of mine join me on the morning of Henry & Annika's newborn session.
She was such an amazing help! She tidied up behind me, she dabbed sweat from my brow, she ran across the room to grab me things I'd left behind, and was amazing at helping soothe the babies. She is no stranger to working with babies, which I think is very important, and she was not only an extra set of hands but an extra set of eyes to catching little things that had fallen out of place while I was concentrating on posing or calming one of the babies.
Thank you so much, Tamara, for your amazing help that day!
(She even brought me coffee, which was much needed!)
Double Dose Of Sweet!
Henry & Annika arrived prematurely, as most twins do, so they were extra teeny-tiny! I think between the two of them they weighed just under 10lbs! I've had single babies come to the studio that weighed that much just on their own! To put into perspective, my bed prop can typically fit one baby just perfectly. During this session, this prop fit them both!
Each Takes A Turn In The Spotlight
I always love the portraits of twins together; it's always fascinating to see how they respond when they are placed side by side. They almost always relax and find comfort in each other, which makes perfect sense considering they are all they've known from their very beginning. But it's really so incredible, and it wows me every time!
I also love to get individual portraits of each baby on their own to capture their unique details; no matter how similar they actually look, they all have something that is different about them. There defining characteristics that make them unique all on their own! And I love taking that time to give them each a turn in the spotlight.
I was slightly concerned on how well Annika would cooperate during the session, as Mom had told me she was normally very active and awake, and that she'd prefer to do the session sooner rather than later before her level of activity increased. However, I was relieved that during the session she was very calm and relaxed, and slept happily through the majority of the session. It was actually her brother, Henry, who is normally quiet and calm, who was putting up a bit of a fuss. But, I can't blame the poor little guy.
I always work gently with my little newborn clients, but I often get yelled at by them as I pose them. Poor little things just want to sleep undisturbed, and here I come along putting them into new and different positions and putting fussing with their hands. I can imagine it's a little obnoxious while you're trying to get some sleep! But, they eventually settle down and once they let out that definitive cry of "I'm DONE!" I know when to call it quits and move on to something else.
Appreciate The Unposed
I've really come to appreciate taking a few unposed portraits during the course of a session to capture some of the baby's expressions. Whether it be a cry, a yawn, a sneeze or a stretch. I often end up capturing some adorable and heart-warming expressions! When it came down to deciding which of these photos Mom & Dad wanted to take home, they just couldn't decide - they had to take them all!
Welcomed Into Loving Arms!
This beautiful couple has gotten a heck-of-a-lot busier since their little ones have arrived, but they were so calm and relaxed during their session and that really helped set the perfect atmosphere in the studio as Tamara and I worked with their perfect little babies.
I absolutely adore their family poses. Mom had mentioned she had only gotten about 2 hours of sleep the night before her session, and I have to give her HUGE props for still making it to their session. I can only imagine how tired she felt, but the joy on her face along with the pride on Dad's made for some beautiful, keepsake-quality portraits that I know they will never regret!
Thank you so much, again, for your trust in me to capture your beautiful memories. I sound like a broken record, and I always wrap up my blogs with the same speech. But I truly cannot put my gratitude into words, and I am so thankful for the clients who allow me to put this joy in my life as they celebrate the new humans who will also bring them so much joy!
I was proud to deliver the beautiful Portrait Gallery of Henry & Annika.
