A little over two years ago I hauled all of my gear to a gorgeous house full of natural light and photographed a beautiful baby boy welcomed by the Hunt family. When I received another email asking about a newborn session, my heart did flips of joy! There is no greater compliment than having parents' return for another session with another new little family member to welcome and present to the world!
This time, Mom and Dad came to my studio with their two little boys in tow. We had entertained the idea of doing another in-home session, but I am so glad they decided to give my studio a go. I know that hauling a brand new baby into the studio along with an older sibling can be a demanding task on everyone (especially sleep deprived momma's) but they did it and they're amazing for it! Big brother Graham shuffled in shyly with his toys trucks grasped tightly in his hands, I grabbed the diaper bag and some extra things to help Mom & Dad out, and we headed upstairs into the studio for a lovely session.
Tiny little James was awake for a good chunk of the session, which made timing a little difficult with 2-year-old Graham waiting for his time in the spotlight with his brand new baby brother. Finally, little James slipped off into a deep sleep, and we danced, sang, and joked to try and earn Graham's interest and smiles back. His attention and interest were long gone after a couple hours of trying to get his baby brother back to sleep (it happens, sometimes, and we are always at the mercy of baby and toddler!) but what finally did it was pretending there was a teensy little frog hiding in baby James' hands.
That grabbed Graham's attention and off we went in a mad dash to sneak in as many photos as we needed with Graham (for all he knew, we were frog hunting!) before he was over it and wanted to return to the couch to watch some more YouTube and munch on yummy snacks (I can't say I blame him - I love vegging on the couch, too!)
After those key shots were complete, we snuck little James off to the bean bag and gently coaxed him into a variety of adorable little poses. Mom and Dad's patience throughout the session was absolutely amazing, and it was so great to see them again. Mom was as radiant and glowing as ever, and Dad was a clearly proud poppa to TWO little boys, now!
I found myself reminiscing back to when I used to pack up all of my newborn props and camera gear and hauled it all from house to house for my newborn sessions. I'd arrive and set it all up, shoot the session, and pack it all back up again. I'd have to bring it all back into my house to store it safely, and bring it all back out when it came time to head out on another whirlwind newborn session adventure. This was all back before a studio was a possibility for me and I had to make do with what I was able to do at the time. It's been such a blessing to be able to grow and build up Hocus Focus Photography into the beautiful little room it is today. It's nothing insanely fancy, but it's a perfect little spec of place on this earth where treasurable memories are made and I am forever thankful for all of my wonderful clients who have been a part of this journey with me and have helped me push my business to where it is today.
It continues to grow, adapt and evolve into something bigger and more beautiful every day. The love for what I do continues to burn into a bigger flame and I know - I KNOW - this is what I was BORN to do.
Thank you to the wonderful Hunt family for being such a wonderful family to work with. You have a truly beautiful family, and your smiles light up any room with joy and radiance. I adore the love that shines from your eyes for your little men, Mom & Dad. I hope to see you all again very soon. Thank you for being a part of my journey, and best of luck on yours as the parents to two wonderful little dudes.
Here is James, everyone!
