I have met and photographed many wonderful babies this year, and in the years since I've started professionally snuggling and photographing the newest of little humans.
They are all remarkably special and amazing in their unique and very different ways. But when a couple prays for 1,121 days to be blessed with a tiny human of their own, there are definitely emotions that make a newborn session like this extra special.
I had the pleasure of meeting Danielle and Arvin back in January for a very frigid (but even more beautiful) maternity session as they anxiously awaited their rainbow baby boy and finally, oh so finally, feel the warmth of his skin against theirs.
Here are a few of my favourites from Danielle's maternity session:
My heart was so full of happiness and excitement for them; I was misty-eyed at their maternity session, and I'm normally not a crier so the emotions were very real for me towards this beautiful, amazing couple.
You could imagine the tears I fought as I first laid eyes on the sweet little Bennett, his perfect little face sound asleep in his chair as I got my first glance at him through watery eyes, tears of joy and pure happiness. He was absolutely beautiful and my heart was filled with so many emotions, I just couldn't wait to scoop him up in my arms and snuggle this precious, oh-so-special baby boy.
The pride that absolutely beamed from his parents' faces was a sight to be held, it truly was. Their excitement in showing off their most treasured little human, a tiny person they prayed so long for, was finally here and ready to make his mark on the world, and had already left so many marks on the hearts of everyone who'd met him. Oh, little Bennett, you are absolute perfection. I can not even put into words the honour it was to meet you, and how much I look forward to our many more sessions together!
Danielle LOVES elephants, so of course, it was a given that a pachyderm portrait of some sort was to be incorporated into the session, as well as a colourful rainbow theme to acknowledge the trials and heartbreak before the ultimate gift of Bennett. A rainbow represents a baby following a loss; as in a rainbow always follows even the worst of storms. Bennett is Danielle and Arvin's rainbow, shining so bright and adding so much colour and vibrancy into their lives. Ah, I am getting misty-eyed again just thinking about it! Danielle had also brought along a vintage suitcase and a little, stuffed puppy that held a significant meaning to them (note the little butterfly on Bennett in that shot, as well, as that also holds significant meaning!) I love putting together these photographs that are full of special meaning for parents to not only treasure but absolutely cherish. Photos that have a story and deep meaning within the family that make the photograph not just a photograph, but a very special and irreplaceable keepsake.
Bennett may as well have been part pretzel - he LOVED his feet up by his face! He rested his tiny little foot on his cheek and I just could not get enough of his own unique little pose. I could have just let him snooze away like that all day, but we had much more cuteness to capture.
He didn't sleep through the whole session, but he was quite happy just looking around and taking in all of his surroundings (you have a smart one on your hands, Mom & Dad!) which made for a great variety in his gallery with both sleepy snapshots and bright-eyed photographs.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Danielle and Arvin, for trusting me with the HUGE responsibility and honour in capturing your son's very precious photos. My heart swells with joy and happiness for the both of you, and you both have been so kind and friendly to work with. I have enjoyed every single one of our sessions together and can't wait for the many more we will have together as we watch Bennett grow into the handsome and wonderful little boy he is!
It is with the greatest pleasure that I present to you the sweetest baby boy: Bennett!
