All the tones of this session! Ahh! I am absolutely in love.
Baby Lucas came into the studio for his newborn session just 10 days fresh, and the excitement and happy energy that followed him into the studio with his family had me smiling from ear to ear from beginning to end. I love newborn sessions. I love picking up their tiny bodies and wrapping them up into the likeness of a potato (a little spud-baby) and listening to their little grunts and squeaks as they slip away into a blissful sleep, the heater gently humming away in the corner and older siblings wandering around wide-eyed at all the things around them, often asking, "What's that for? How do you use it? Why is that in here?"
While all of my newborn sessions have the same general flow, there is never a session that is ever the same. Each baby is different, each family is different. From the things we talk about and the styles they like, and the different vibes they bring to my little workplace.
Lucas' family exuded warmth and happiness from their very presence (seriously, just LOOK at their smiles!), and it was so much fun to incorporate their funny little shirts that reference one of the funniest movies of all time ("Step Brothers") and we had good fun bringing up different lines from the movie. Of course, I had to use my favourite line in a well-timed moment as I moved my lighting over, and then was room for "so many activities!"
"Did we just become best friends?" "YUP!" Ha! I love it. So adorable!
It seemed we hit a bit of a growth spurt day, so Lucas was a little restless once we were done the family portrait portion of the session. Initially, all he needed was a gentle "shh" in his ear to convince him to settle. But eventually, he had had enough and we decided to let the little guy be. I was more than happy with the gorgeous shots we got and was sure I'd gotten everything I needed to deliver a gallery full of adorably precious images to Mom, Dad and big brother.
I love the calm and gentle expression on this little man's face; he has such a perfectly proportioned face and such creamy skin. He makes my portfolio look good, ha! He just looks so peaceful and perfect. I took a bit of extra time in between shots to just sit there and admire him as he snoozed away in the basket, or on the bean bag. Not a worry in the world and perfectly content just being a little baby.
I am so thankful and blessed to have been granted the privilege of meeting and photographing such a wonderful couple of dudes and their parents. I have my fingers crossed hoping to see them again in a year for a cake smash, I have some pretty funny and adorable themes in my head that I think would "take the cake" in uniqueness for little Lucas!
Look out, world! Here comes Lucas!
