I always say a little prayer before a session when an older sibling is in-and-around the age of 2 years old. They're unpredictable and often have a very short attention span, and often getting a good shot of big brother or sister with their new little sibling can be the biggest task of the entire session. Sometimes everything goes perfectly fine and that portion of the session is done and over with. But, I will be honest, 99.99% of the time, it's a workout with just one of them. I often hesitate about making any comments about 2-year-olds, but I mean.. it is what it is. They're not the easiest, ha!
It was safe to say I was on my knees whispering prayer after prayer for this session because this handsome little man, Zora, has not one but TWO older sisters, both the age of 2. Twins! Two 2-year-olds. Okay. We were going to make this happen. And we did. It was a double workout and I had sweat dripping down my forehead before long, but we got a few shots that would work and after some editing magic produced a few shots that showed off a gorgeous family of five.
I absolutely love when I get a baby in the studio with a full head of hair. Perhaps it's a bit of follicle-jealousy, ha! My own babies were all bald from birth and it took a couple years before people stopped mistaking my little girls for boys (we're past that stage now though, thankfully!) But there's just something about those fluffy, wispy little hairs that wiggle about as the warm air moves around my studio and wraps baby in comfort and security. I love using little baby hats as props in photos, but when I get a new bub in the studio with as much hair as Zora does, you can bet I'll be taking advantage of that as much as I can. I just don't have the heart to cover it up for every shot!
It is so remarkable that mom and dad for coming to my studio with their twin toddlers in tow, along with two sets of extra helping hands and, of course, their newborn baby boy in tow. It took a small village to get this session moving smoothly, BUT smoothly it went (for the most part!) and Zora was as perfect as perfect can be. A round of applause to these parents; having three kiddos of my own I know that leaving the house can be a major task - and my kids aren't even babies anymore! So, bravo, Mom & Dad! You did it, and you nailed it!
I absolutely love the portraits of mom and baby; someone needs to get these two a modelling contract and into a magazine! Even my own family members commented on how classy and beautiful momma looked with her brand new baby boy and I have to agree; when I first laid eyes on those shots I was stricken by the refinement and exquisiteness of mom's expression. Her daughters reflected the same fairness in their features and will, no doubt, grow into absolutely stunning young ladies.
Expectations were high for this session, and at the end of the session, I was confident that I had done well in achieving all the of shots we needed for the checklist of shots that were really important for mom & dad. While I do love the creative side of photography, I appreciate when a certain style and shot is desired and requested. It helps me achieve the shots that parents truly want to have hanging on their walls. While most of the time we can make it happen, sometimes we have to embrace the cards that were dealt and get a little creative. But, at the end of the day, I did a little fist pump of joy at the completion of this session, from shooting to editing, and was excited to deliver a stunning gallery to this fabulous family!
The pleasure was all mine, sweet little Zora! Handsome baby boy. So deeply loved by this gorgeous family! I feel warm and smiley. :)
