This is a doubled-up blog to show off a gorgeous maternity session, followed by the beautiful baby boy who was hidden within the bump.
Back before the snow fell over the city and the cold claimed the air once again, during a time when the sun was warm and the air was filled with the twitter of birds, it was for the second time that I met with this gorgeous mama and her family for a beautiful maternity session. Mama was absolutely gorgeous, and I knew it was going to be a good one the moment I saw her standing in her pretty pink dress.
Our first session together was chilly and crisp, quite a contrast to the beautiful and slightly muggy day that we met for our session. It was during Calgary's smokey, smoggy spell during the BC fires, which ended up offering soft and diffused lighting. Perfect for a very gorgeous maternity session! The session went very smooth, so we didn't have to spend more time out in the poor air quality than we had to. But I couldn't have had better lighting conditions that day!
Introducing little Sloan (LOVE his name!), proudly welcomed into the family and making this clan a group of 4. I was so excited to meet and photograph this little fella, and to see Logan in his brand new role of Big Brother!
Initially, Logan was 110% engaged and fully willing to cooperate for some sibling shots, rare for a two-year-old! Admittedly, I may have pushed my chances a little too far and lost my moment for the shot while trying to make a tiny adjustment... completely my bad. Toddlers are quick to get bored, and once they've lost interest it's hard to get it back! We went from 110% engaged to 120% un-interested in under a hot second, and despite desperate efforts to try and get him to stay, he was not having it.
After a bit of a break and giving everyone a chance to wind back down, we were able to convince him to sit beside his baby brother for a couple of shots under one condition: his stuffed puppy had to be included. Take it or leave it, ha!
Logan was sporting an adorable little dino shirt, which had me hopping in place with excitement having just acquired an adorable little dinosaur outfit that I just could NOT wait to use! And it definitely did not disappoint. Sloan looked absolutely adorable in his little dino duds.
I particularly love the shots of Mama holding precious baby perfectly in her hands. They don't stay tiny like this forever; in fact, it's only for a very little time that they are so little and I always love documenting their size with this gorgeous pose.
Navy blue is rapidly becoming (or has already become) one of my favourite backdrop colours. I love how baby skin-tones *pop* off of it, without it being too overwhelming for a coloured backdrop. Perfect for boys AND girls, alike, too!
I love how "round" and squishy this baby boy was. He is exactly what I would picture when someone uses the phrase "bouncing baby boy". He was so quiet, happy, snoozy and blessed with a just-right amount of tiny fluffy hairs on the top of his perfectly round head. A beautiful newborn gallery to be enjoyed for years to come by this wonderful family, and hoping I'm lucky enough to see them a year from now to celebrate a ONE-derful first birthday with cake-smeared baby thighs!
I thoroughly enjoyed both this maternity session and newborn session very much, from start to finish. :) I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!
